Candles should be simple.
Wax. A wick. Beautiful botanical aroma.
Yet many candles today are made from highly refined waxes, synthetic fragrance blends, dyes, and other additives.
At Wellness by Ari, we wanted something different.
That’s why we chose American beeswax as the foundation of our candles and pair it with carefully selected GC/MS-tested pure essential oils rather than synthetic fragrance oils.
It’s a more expensive way to make a candle—but for us, the ingredients matter.
What Is Beeswax?
Beeswax is a natural wax produced by honeybees.
Worker bees produce wax to build the honeycomb structures used inside the hive. After honey is harvested, the wax can be collected, filtered, and purified for use in everything from balms and salves to beautiful natural candles.
Unlike manufactured candle waxes, beeswax begins with something incredibly simple:
Bees. Flowers. Honeycomb. Nature.
That’s one of the reasons we love it.
Why American Beeswax?
Where our ingredients come from matters to us.
By choosing American beeswax, we can support domestic beekeepers and agriculture while using a beautiful natural material produced right here in the United States.
Bees play an enormously important role in our food system through pollination, and supporting responsible beekeeping is something we’re proud to make part of the Wellness by Ari story.
We could choose less expensive candle wax.
We choose beeswax intentionally.
Why We Prefer Beeswax Over Paraffin
Paraffin wax is one of the most widely used candle waxes in the world.
It is generally produced from petroleum-derived feedstocks and is popular with candle manufacturers because it is inexpensive, consistent, and holds synthetic fragrance extremely well.
But that’s simply not what we wanted our candles to be.
Beeswax is a naturally produced wax created by honeybees. It has its own subtle character, beautiful texture, and naturally warm appearance.
For a brand centered around thoughtfully selected, nature-derived ingredients, the choice made sense.
We’d rather build our candles around beeswax than petroleum-derived paraffin.
A Naturally Beautiful Candle
One of our favorite things about beeswax is that it doesn’t need much help.
Natural beeswax can range from pale ivory to rich golden yellow depending on its source and degree of filtration.
Those subtle variations are part of its beauty.
Just like essential oils, natural materials aren’t always perfectly identical from one harvest to another.
We don’t see that as an imperfection.
We see it as a reminder of where the ingredient came from.
Why Our Candles Smell Different
If you’re accustomed to heavily fragranced commercial candles, a Wellness by Ari candle may be a different experience.
And that’s intentional.
Many conventional candles use synthetic fragrance oils specifically engineered to create extremely strong and persistent scent.
We don’t.
Our candles are scented with carefully formulated blends of GC/MS-tested pure essential oils.
Essential oils have their own natural aromatic character and behave differently in wax than synthetic fragrance oils. Creating a beautiful essential-oil candle requires careful formulation and balance.
The result is the type of fragrance we want in our own homes: botanical, sophisticated, and inspired by nature.
Why Our Candles Cost More to Make
We believe customers deserve to understand what they’re paying for.
American beeswax costs considerably more than many mass-market candle waxes.
Pure essential oils can also be substantially more expensive than synthetic fragrance oils—particularly premium botanical oils that require large quantities of plant material to produce.
Then there is the process itself.
Our candles are handcrafted in small batches rather than produced by the thousands on an automated manufacturing line.
Could we make a less expensive candle?
Absolutely.
But it wouldn’t be the candle we set out to create.
Our Philosophy Is Simple
We don’t believe a candle needs an endless list of ingredients to feel luxurious.
We believe luxury can come from the quality of the ingredients themselves.
