Why We Choose Ancestral Ingredients in a Modern World

Why We Choose Ancestral Ingredients in a Modern World

At Wellness by Ari, some of our favorite ingredients aren’t new discoveries.

They’re old ones.

Grass-fed tallow. American beeswax. Goat milk. Mineral-rich salts. Botanicals. Pure essential oils.

These are ingredients people have relied on for generations, long before modern skincare, body care, and home products filled store shelves.

We call them ancestral ingredients, and they’re at the heart of what we create.

Why Look Back?

Modern products give us more choices than ever, but newer doesn’t automatically mean better.

Previous generations learned to work with what nature provided. Animal fats became balms and soaps. Beeswax became candles and salves. Milk was incorporated into bathing and skincare. Herbs were infused into oils, and mineral-rich salts became part of traditional bathing practices.

There was a simplicity to it that we believe is worth rediscovering.

That’s why, when we’re developing something new, we often start by looking at ingredients that have already stood the test of time.

Traditional Ingredients, Modern Understanding

Choosing ancestral ingredients doesn’t mean ignoring everything we’ve learned since they were first used.

We know more today about skin, formulation, preservation, oxidation, stability, appropriate concentrations, and ingredient testing.

We believe the best approach is to bring those two worlds together:

Traditional ingredients + modern knowledge.

We can appreciate the simplicity of grass-fed tallow while thoughtfully formulating it into beautiful modern skincare.

We can use beeswax created by honeybees while carefully developing the wick and essential-oil blend of a modern candle.

We can appreciate goat milk for the creamy character it brings to soap without pretending it’s a miracle ingredient.

We don’t want to recreate the past.

We want to preserve what was valuable about it.

Why These Ingredients Matter to Us

Every ancestral ingredient we use has a reason for being there.

Grass-fed tallow provides rich emollient fatty acids that soften and condition the skin.

American beeswax gives our candles their beautiful natural character and also serves an important role in many traditional balm formulations.

Goat milk contributes richness and creaminess to our handcrafted soaps.

Mineral-rich salts bring the simplicity of traditional soaking and bathing into modern self-care.

Botanicals and essential oils allow us to work with the natural oils, extracts, and aromas found in plants rather than relying solely on manufactured alternatives.

We don’t choose these ingredients because they make a label sound good.

We choose them because they serve a purpose.

Nature Isn’t Always Perfectly Uniform

Working with natural materials also means accepting something modern manufacturing often tries to eliminate: variation.

Our American beeswax may range from creamy yellow to deep gold depending on the season and the flowers the bees pollinated.

Essential oils can have subtle differences depending on where a plant was grown, the weather, harvest, and distillation.

That’s part of working with nature.

We still have standards for quality and consistency, but we don’t expect an agricultural ingredient to behave as though it came from an assembly line.

To us, those subtle variations are part of its story.

Why We Don’t Chase Every Trend

There’s always a new ingredient being promoted as the next must-have in wellness or skincare.

We’re open to innovation, and we use modern ingredients when they genuinely improve a formulation.

But being new isn’t enough.

Before adding something, we ask:

What does it do? Why do we need it? Does it make the product better?

Sometimes the answer leads us toward a modern ingredient.

Other times, it leads us right back to something people have used for hundreds of years.

The Wellness by Ari Approach

Choosing ancestral ingredients isn’t about believing everything old is better or everything modern is bad.

It’s about being intentional.

We believe nature has already provided us with some extraordinary materials.

We believe generations before us discovered valuable ways to use them.

And we believe modern knowledge gives us the opportunity to formulate those ingredients even more thoughtfully today.

That’s why you’ll continue finding grass-fed tallow, American beeswax, goat milk, mineral-rich salts, botanicals, and pure essential oils throughout Wellness by Ari.

We’re not trying to go backward.

We’re taking the best of what came before us and bringing it forward.

Rooted in creation. Inspired by tradition. Refined for modern life.
